Sponsoring an Orphan Child - Orphan Sponsorship

SMT Orphan scheme is designed to assist orphans and orphaned families in the long term via provision of education to the orphan child and financial aid to the family. The scheme currently provides for children.

How does the scheme work?

The scheme ensures that for only £10 per month, all necessary requirements for the childs living can be provided. This includes provision of:

* School fees
* Clothing and footwear (school uniform)
* Books and stationary
* Travel

For only £2 a month you can you can provide an orphan with an education.

All the orphans are individually selected for sponsorship by SMT. The childs age, family size and living conditions are also looked at. Once sponsorship has begun our volunteers maintain regular contact with the child and ensure that the child remains in school.

Can I contact the child?

All sponsors receive full details of the sponsored child, including name, postal address, family status, name and address of school and present class etc. Sponsors can of course contact the child as and when they wish to.

Will I be informed of the childs progress?

You will receive annual school reports to see how your child is getting on at school and will be kept updated on any changes in their circumstances. (in case where sponsorship should be terminated e.g. child reaches 16years or has left school, we will immediately contact you and offer the choice of continuing sponsorship or switching to another orphan).

How do I begin sponsorship?

To sponsor a child online, please click here, or alternatively you can set up a Direct Debit Online. We use Direct Debit because it is efficient and reduces administration costs. To set up a direct debit you must have a valid UK Bank account. There is no fixed period for sponsorship. If your financial circumstances change, we will still continue to support the child until a new donor is found.

Orphanage

High death rates of mothers at birth and poor treatment availability means there is an increasing number of orphans. In response to this 8 orphanage centres have already been set up each catering for over 50 orphans. Further land has been donated for an orphanage centre. Next stage is to raise £80,000 to build and prepare a hostel, to provide residential accommodation and education to the orphans.
