Fitrana
Fitrana, also known as Zakat al-Fitr, is a form of charity that Muslims are required to give at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. It is a way to purify the fast and help those in need celebrate Eid with joy and dignity. The purpose of Fitrana is to ensure that the less fortunate can also partake in the festivities of Eid, providing them with the means to buy food or other necessities.
The amount of Fitrana is typically a set amount, which is calculated based on the cost of staple foods like wheat, dates, or barley, and varies from region to region. It is obligatory for every Muslim, including children and those who are financially able, to pay Fitrana. This charity is meant to purify the fast and is a way to encourage generosity and empathy for those who are struggling. The payment should ideally be made before the Eid prayer, ensuring those in need have the resources to celebrate.
Fitrana is calculated at £5 per person

“Charity does not decrease wealth. No one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status”
(Sahih Muslim 2588)
Ibn Umar (RA) said:
“The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered the payment of Zakat al-Fitr before the people go out for the Eid prayer.”
