Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Save The Mother Trust to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Save The Mothers Trust we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Save The Mothers Trust to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Save The Mothers Trust will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Save The Mothers Trust receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

SMT Orphanage

There are more than 100 million orphans worldwide.

The conflicts have left millions of people displaced in the Ivory Coast, over half of them children, with many others fleeing to safety in nearby Liberia. Thousands have lost their homes and all of their possession in the violence.

Today Ivory Coast is in 168th place out of 186 countries and territories when ranked in terms of life expectancy, literacy, access to knowledge and the living standards of a country. Infant and under-five mortality rates are among the highest in the world and violence against children is built into the culture here. The war has seen poverty levels soar with over half the population living on less than 60p a day compared with just 10% in 1985 effectively multiplying those in poverty by tenfold in a single generation and of the 9,780,000 children living in the Ivory Coast, some 420,000 are orphans as a result of AIDS, and more than 52,000 children are infected themselves.

Child Labour
Approximately one in three children in Ivory Coast are forced to work in order to provide for themselves and their families. There are more than 5,000 children working in the cocoa plantations, of which less than 1% are paid. In urban areas, the “little maids” phenomenon is common: it refers to very young Ivorian girls who are exploited as domestic servants. Other sectors also employ a large number of children, particularly in woodworking and in the food and craft industries. Even worse, there are Ivorian children who risk their lives on a daily basis in the mines, where living conditions are even more precarious.

SMT vision is to transform the lives of these abandoned children. Our goal is to take these children in, care for them, cloth them educate them. Our goal is to provide these children with a clean, safe, and nurturing environment. To assist the needy children within Ivory Coast to have access to basic shelter as well as advocating for other basic needs.

To tackle the issue SMT has begun its project of constructing an Orphanage in Marcory, Abidjan. This Orphanage will include: 2 dormitory bedrooms (1 for girls and 1 for boys) which will include 10 Bunk beds in each accommodating a total of 40 orphans, a living room with seating area with TV and other entertainment, a study room, a kitchen and Dining Hall, 4 Toilet Rooms which will all including new toilets, new showers, new sinks, hot and cold water facilities, an admin office and a playground.

The children at the Orphanage will be fully taken care of with your support in terms of Education, food, water, clothing and medical care. When they reach the age of 16 and are at a good level of education through which they will be able to take employment or study further they will move on.

Objectives of the Orphanage project
1). To have a permanent home where orphaned children, street children and other vulnerable children can stay in peace.
2). To have a rehabilitation centre where children in difficult circumstances such as the displaced can live.
3). To use the home so as to advocate for the rights of children mostly those that have been vulnerable.
4). To have a Resource development and empowerment centre that can train the community on child protection.

The total cost to construct the Orphanage is £30,000 and to sponsor 1 orphan is £20 per month.
The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said ” the poor will enter the Paradise before the rich. ” After a pause, he added, ” O Aisha, never turn a needy person away from your door. Give him something, though it may be only a piece of date. Respect the poor and love them in spite of their poverty. If you bring the poor and needy close to you, Allah will bring you closer to himself.”
